Sheep loss on summer pasture

Lamb loss due to diseases, accidents and predators is an increasing challenge in many outfield pastures in Norway and especially in the county of Møre and Romsdal.

In this project we will use digital surveillance to see if we can find the cause of death of lambs on summer pasture in the outfields in Surnadal. 400 sheep and lambs will be equipped with GPS-collars. This will help us to find dead animals before they decompose or are eaten by predators. The carcass will be examined by a veterinarian as well as an expert on predators. We hope this will give us more knowledge about losses and help us to prevent future losses.
