Soil Carbon Trøndelag
The County Governor of Trøndelag, the County Council, NLR and the region’s agricultural schools are exploring the possibilities of increasing the soil carbon content in Trøndelag.

The project plays a central role in initiating specific climate measures and promoting cooperation between the agricultural sector, farm advisers, agricultural secondary schools and the research community in Trøndelag.
Project goals:
- Follow up, at the regional level, the principles of the climate agreement between the farmers’ associations and the government on increased carbon sequestration.
- Follow up and utilize knowledge and experience from the pilot project "Carbon Storage in Agriculture".
- Develop and test a model for Trøndelag that stimulates, demonstrates and documents the capture and storage of carbon in soil, and that addresses the need for sustainable food production at the regional level.
- Further develop and coordinate the project in joint cooperation between the County Governor, the agricultural sector, the farm advisory service, R&D institutes (Sintef, Nibio, Norsøk, Ruralis) and the agricultural secondary schools.
- Increase awareness and knowledge about the important role of soil-improvement and soil-conservation measures in climate change mitigation, including the importance of soil organic matter in reducing the effects of droughts and extreme precipitation and in mitigating erosion risk.
NORSØK’s role in the project is to provide advice to NLR and the agricultural schools.
